Love Problems

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

By Daniel Okula Often times when a couple gets married, things get pushed off, or ignored. Earlier in the marriage, the sight-seeing, honeymoon feeling, and those fancy restaurant dates tend to decline. Why do they decline? It’s not because your love for one another has become less, remember that. Your spouse may be getting tied with his work, cramming to meet deadlines, or being bossed around too much like the underdog. Maybe things are just not settling smoothly, and sometimes it feels great, sometimes normal, and sometimes crappy. Several hardships can be waded through, and this is one of them. Remember, showing you love your partner is the best way to communicate. I’m not saying go buy a 24k diamond necklace every anniversary, but at least make an effort. There’s no excuse for not buying flowers, especially if it’s the anniversary. Flowers are cheap and now days they can be delivered right to your doorstep. Show your partner that you care, by sending those flowers on the anniversary even if you’re going out to dinner, and even more importantly, show them that you remembered! Another great gift is a box of chocolates on Valentines Day. How much effort does it take to go to a chocolate shop or a store like Target, buy some chocolates, write a little note and tuck it into your partner’s purse or sac? Simply none at all and that’s why you should do it. Most often, people tend to forget to say the phrase, ‘I love you’, quite a bit. Show your partner that you care for them, hug them, hold their hands, even if your getting old, bring the lively actions into the relationship once more. Set some events that you can go to. Almost always try to attend your friends and family’s weddings. Weddings are a very rare occasion, and if you are already married, the memories of your own wedding will flood through your mind. Imagine the effect this will create, you will remember your own wedding day, your honeymoon, and you’ll want to cherish that moment again. You should never decline an offer to attend to a friend or family’s party either. Large social events create fun for everyone. Remember, don’t put things off till tomorrow, because tomorrow never comes. * Relationships can get stormy for everyone. * Buy something for your partner. * Show your love. * Attend social events such as weddings. * Never put things off. Aromatherapy Candles: Scent of Peace

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

By Tania Penwell A friend of mine named Charlene, who runs an aromatherapy course in Lincoln, Nebraska, told me a story about a young man who had just joined the course and was raring to go because he had read so much about aromatherapy. It was Charlenes practice to light an aromatherapy candle at the beginning of every session and ask the participants what the fragrance reminded them of. As it happened, she was using a lavender candle and asked the young man what he could smell. He took a deep breath, and with a look of great disappointment on his face, said, Room freshener! I never found out what he was expecting, Charlene later told me. With apologies for this initial digression, I think the young man got it at least partially right. Aromatherapy candles are a room freshener par excellence, because they keep a room smelling exquisite for hours together. However, what makes them even better is that they have therapeutic effects on the mind and body. Why is that? Well, aromatherapy candles are made of wax laced with essential oils from certain aromatic plants, so that as the wax melts, the molecules of the plant extract are diffused into the environment, thus creating a heavenly fragrance. So which are the plants from which aromatherapy candles draw their fragrances? The answer is not exactly straightforward, since any or more than one part of a particular plant may be the source of the fragrance. But that minor complication apart, lavender is the most popular oil when it comes to aromatherapy candles. That does not mean you dont have a wide enough choice, given the speed with which the popularity of aromatherapy is increasing. According to aromatherapy practitioners like Charlene, there are candles to suit all moods. So if you are suffering from insomnia, light sage, chamomile, and ylang ylang candles next to your bath. Those suffering from depression should try rosemary and grapefruit aromatherapy candles, while all-purpose aromatherapy candles contain extracts of sandalwood, eucalyptus, geranium, peppermint, and many other plants. However, you may very well find that reactions vary from person to person, so it is best not to generalize if you are using a candle for therapy. Consult an expert first. In addition to aromas, these candles are also available in a vast array of shapes and sizes. So you can go for a floating, pillar, gel, votive or jar candle. In addition, if you feel up to it, you can prepare a personalized aromatherapy candle at home by mixing and matching several aromas. To get you started, try a blend of cinnamon, clove and nutmeg. An alternative could be a refreshing and stimulating mix of peppermint, lemon, and rosemary. Dont forget to write in with the results! Who Uses Tanning Beds?

Monday, August 27th, 2007

By Grace Palce When tanning beds first hit the markets, the sole purpose of this technology, to provide indoor tanning, is simply cosmetic in nature. Obtaining a gorgeous dark olive skin seemed trivial and the tanning bed is less grand compared to other technological inventions. Thus, the primary users of tanning beds are young women who only wanted a tan to show off to their friends. Further studies, however, showed that tanning beds are not only useful for darkening the skin. The ultraviolet radiation emitted by the tanning bed lamps has been found to enforce vitamin D production in the human skin in the same way that the direct exposure to suns rays can. Vitamin D is a major substance needed to strengthen the bones and to prevent diseases. Thus, it can be said that the responsible use of tanning beds can contribute to the overall health of a person. With these studies, the profile of tanning bed users begins to change dramatically. Instead of being purely composed of young women, the profile of tanning bed users now has men and older adults. And this was shown in the study conducted by a group of researchers led by Dr. Michael Strepp. The results of this 2004 study were compared to the results of the last 1996 survey. In the 1996 survey, almost all users of tanning beds are college-age women. But in the most recent market research, about 30% of tanning bed users are now composed of men. A similar survey of Canadian tanning salons showed a comparable data. That is, 25% of all patrons of 160 Canadian tanning salons are male. The percentages are expected to increase since the tanning salons now are built separate from hair and beauty salons. Men will be more comfortable entering tanning salons. An interesting data came out of the survey regarding male users. One tanning salon reported that though 27% of its clientele are male, 40% of its profits come from the male customers. This is because men use the tanning beds more often than women. The recent market study also showed that older people are now using tanning beds. That is 70% of all surveyed tanning bed users are aged older than 25. And in New York, men over the age of 40 are beginning to use tanning beds. There are even senior citizens who now enter tanning salons. As the health benefits of using tanning beds become more popular, more men and more older adults are going to utilize this indoor tanning technology. These new wave of users are responsible and health-conscious people intent on using a proven technology. Besides maintaining her own sites she has also guest-written several articles for the 1200 calories diet site. Alternative Medicine is Organic; Western Medicine is Machine-Oriented

Saturday, August 25th, 2007

By Daryl Kulak Is your body a type of machine, like a car or a cell phone, or is it a living thing? I know that’s seems like a weird question, but your answer to it determines whether you agree with the Western medical model or alternative medicine. Western medicine increasingly sees our bodies as machines with interchangeable parts. Heart isn’t working right? Okay, we’ll get that damn thing replaced for you and rotate your tires while we’re at it. Does that sound like a human body? Here’s the problem, as I see it. There is no accumulation of substances that you can pile up to create life. Because life isn’t just stuff, it’s mostly relationships between stuff. That is to say, life is mostly due to fields. Electromagnetic fields and other types of fields. That’s what makes life. Western medicine takes what is called a reductionist viewpoint of the body. That means, no matter what the illness, we can always just take things apart until we get to the one thing that caused the problem, the one defective part in the body-machine. I’ve written about the reductionist paradigm in another article. So, if something goes wrong in your life, some disease, condition or problem, you need to turn first to the fields to find out what happened. Then perhaps it will make sense to think about the substances and see what you can do there. Machines are just piles of stuff. They aren’t dependent on any field of life. That’s silly. You just put the stuff together in the right way and the machine works. But human bodies (or any animals or plants) don’t work that way. We’ve tried it a million times, and whenever we try to create life synthetically with piles of stuff, we just can’t. Many types of alternative medicine, including acupuncture, ayurveda, energy healing, etc., look at the fields first and try to correct them. Then you add substances (herbs, physical exercises, etc.) to round out the treatment. But they don’t start with the stuff. They start with the fields. Our health problems often begin in the fields, called meridians in Chinese medicine or chakras in Indian medicine, moving into our physical body later. When a problem manifests in the body, it’s already late in the process. You can probably still do a lot by adjusting the fields, but you’ll also have to deal with the physical issues too. But you might want to leave the dangerous, expensive treatments like drugs and surgery as a last resort. Doesn’t that make sense? If you’ve got a very powerful, but very deadly, treatment, wouldn’t you want to use that last rather than your first line of defense? Moving Back To The Nature Through Aromatherapy Skin Care

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

By Bryan Josling In the mid east, there is the custom of wearing hijaab among women. It is a kind of veil that covers the entire face. Though it has taken many a connotations with time (largely controversial), the very basic purpose of it was to protect the facial skin from the sun. Skin care, as can be seen, has been accorded wide importance at all times. In addition, it has been an ubiquitous phenomenon as no part of the world is unaffected with the concern for their skin. Skin care with herbs and plant extracts is finding growing popularity in recent years. This is termed as aromatherapy skin care. Aromatherapy skin care is not a recent concept. Only that we were so engrossed in artificial and synthetic products that we forgot the huge resource of our nature. Artificial skin care products are easily available. This was the primary plank on which these became the order of the day. For the natural remedies for skin care, one had to visit their source, i.e. the forest. This was an impossible task for a common person. So, artificial moisturizers, artificial lotions, artificial sunscreens, and several other artificial skin care products almost enveloped the market. It was because of constant research on the subject that people understood the adverse effects of artificial products. Now, people who are concerned about their skin and are willing to spend that extra buck for the correct remedy for their skin, have voted for natural skin care products and aromatherapy skin care. If seen from the point of view of cost, then aromatherapy skin care will turn out to be the cheapest. If one wants then he can prepare an all-natural skin care preparation at home. Does this demand time? No! Devote your weekend to skin care (your skin truly deserves that). Many preparations last for a few days to certain weeks. So, one may keep them for use during the weekdays. This will ensure that you do not get late for office while readying your skin for the day. Simple techniques are involved in aromatherapy skin care. While taking a bath, sprinkle two drops each of lavender, bergamot, and cedar wood. This will keep you refreshed all day. If you are feeling nervous, then use of essentials oils of geranium and basil is recommended. Similarly, there are baths aimed at relieving people of insomnia or fatigue. If using a skin softener, look for sweet almond oil in the product. Being rich in Vitamins A, B1, B2, and B6, your skin will glow. Exposing ones skin to steam is also helpful. This helps open the pores in the skin and thus prevents skin inflammations. A cleanser too works in the same manner. It helps keep the skin clean. Always use a chemical free and soap free cleanser. One may have a vast choice from natural cleansers available in the market. All these attempts to keep your skin healthy and glowing will go waste if you are stressed. Stress shows on your face (unless you are a master deceiver). Go for a spa and rejuvenate yourself. Bryan Josling is working with the Horticultural Research Station in Adelaide. Get A Guy- 15 Tips For Your First Internet Date

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

By Coco Swan Girls! That guy youve been busy e-mailing on the dating site has finally committed to meet in person. Heres how to survive that first real person date! 1: Be punctual. Do you like to be kept waiting? Arriving late gives the impression that you are inconsiderate of others time. 2: Try to meet for a coffee. Chatting over a coffee can go from 15 minutes to 2 hours. If the guy is a total loser it is totally acceptable to wrap it up fast. If you have plenty in common one coffee can easily become two. 3: Arrive sober. Stay sober. Alcohol may give him the idea that you are a lush or easy and will also lower your inhibitions, perhaps with you later thinking, I didnt really mean to say or do that. 4: Smile! Be upbeat and try and stay positive without giving the impression you are on your tenth coffee. 5: Leave your cell phone off or at best on silent but do not answer it or acknowledge it.. You will never find a partner if you cant give the guy 15 minutes of your attention without the rest of your world stopping . 6: Go with your basic instincts. If he seems like a potential stalker or psychopath employ your plan b exit plan for emergencies a.s.a.p. 7: Go for smart casual or after work look. Wait for the nightclub date to show off the nightclub frock and makeup. A lot of guys are put off by excessive dramatic makeup, so go for natural and discreet. Tactfully show off your best attributes. Fantastic legs? Boot leg trousers or shortish skirt will show him this without you having to resort to a micro-mini skirt . Your cleavage your best asset? Wrap tops are great for these fortunate ladies because they show your curves without wearing a shirt that starts opening halfway to your belly ring. Remember, you want him to come back for more, not feel like hes seen the whole you on the first meeting. 8: Absolutely no sex! Even if he is your George Clooney and youve been in a sexual hiatus for seemingly years. Having sex on a first encounter has just made this first date a dreaded one night stand. You need to stimulate the guys respect, interest and like. The lust mode is much more easy to engage than the afore mentioned aspects. Remember the oft quoted male interpretation of would you like to meet for a coffee? really means eventually Id like to have sex with you. Make him wait. 9: For safety issues never, ever give out fine details that pin point exactly where you live. What happens if he turns out to be a stalker? 10: Avoid past relationship autopsies. No one likes damaged goods. Make sure you have the basic areas of your life covered with short and sweet explanations. Dont forget he wouldnt be free to have coffee with you if his own love life was in perfect order so he also has some sort of history. 11: Treat him with the same respect you like for yourself. Nowadays, everyone is so tied up in themselves and have become so me,me,me. 12: Stranger danger. You cant be too careful. Inform a friend where you are going and with whom (a little tricky with internet dating).Select a well lit, busy coffee shop thats easy to enter and leave. If the encounter is unsuccessful you dont want to be worrying about scurrying down some dark alley, being followed to the subway or harassed hailing a cab. You could also plan to meet a friend afterwards. Please do not have your friend sit there and watch on you from another table as this is too disconcerting and sometimes obvious, not too mention a bit school girlish. If you become fearful try a ruse like going up to the wait staff to order another coffee, mention to them you dont feel safe and can they keep an eye out on you. Go to the powder room and call your emergency exit. Get out as quickly and politely as you can. Make sure he is not following you. 13: Try to hear as well as talk. Both of you should leave feeling like you got a bit of a better understanding of the other. How often do you and your girlfriends say about a potential date he is just so into himself, his career that he wasnt even interested in anything about me? Even though it sounds terribly obvious a safe balance is about 50/50 although it can be tricky with first date nervousness etc to get it right between clamming up entirely and verbal diarrhea. 14: Be friendly, listen and smile. First impressions do count. When trying to find a long term partner dont sell yourself short by coming over as tacky or cheap. You want to be treated with respect with an eye on the future not viewed as a quick sexual conquest. 15: Practice makes perfect. Some say you are here for as good time not a long time. Dont tie yourself up in knots about these first dates, if this one wasnt a success then it really was just perfecting your dating skills whilst waiting for your Mister Right to come along. Hopefully next time! Good Luck, Coco Swan. Copyright 2007 Author Coco Swan Coco recommends reading this easy-path and increasingly popular guide to making sure you get the guy you want. How To Decide If You Need To Hire A Wedding Consultant

Monday, August 20th, 2007

By Gregg Hall Congratulations on your upcoming wedding, now comes the work. It may have been suggested to you to hire a wedding consultant which can be a good thing or a bad thing dependent upon whether you really need one or not. If you are really busy or have a fulltime job it may be necessary but the other thing to consider is that it is also an added expense that should be discussed by the parties that are paying for it. On the plus side, a wedding consultant will take on the majority of the drudgery of the wedding planning process. It will still be your decision when it comes to deciding colors, styles, dates, etc. They are basically there to do the things you don’t want to do and to give you advice; it’s up to you to decide if you want to take it. They will be the one that gets tough with vendors so you don’t have to get upset. If you use a consultant that has a lot of experience she will have a good relationship with most of them anyway. When you use a popular wedding consultant the vendors will bed over backwards not to upset them because they know it can cost them a ton of business. Since they have a lot of experience with weddings they will be able to answer any questions you might have and advise you about things like where to get the best deals on food, invitations, gifts, flowers, ad where to find the best dress! They will know the best locations for your wedding and reception as well as the best times of the year. They can also help you with planning your budget. A good consultant will walk you through the planning process from the ceremony to the honeymoon. You will not have to worry will mailings, setting appointments, placing the food orders or any of the more time consuming stressful aspects. Your consultant will handle all of that and more. You can see the many benefits to hiring a consultant but there are also reasons not to hire a consultant. It’s your choice. Here’s why. You may be a detail oriented person and have had the fine details in your head for some time. In this case your will want to be more in control of the planning. If you plan on a small ceremony at your home or another free space you won’t need someone to coordinate for you. You may not like a traditional wedding style or anything resembling it so your needs won’t be easy to please and so doing it yourself would be much better. Invite Spring Early - Grow in Your Basement

Monday, August 20th, 2007

By Jim Kennard Now’s the time to get ready to grow your own seedlings! It’s not really difficult, and can extend your growing season by many weeks. For example, by planting brassica’s (cabbage, broccoli, and cauliflower) in February in your basement under grow-lights, you can put large, sturdy transplants into your garden by the end of March or early April, and be eating them when others are just seeing them come up! However, remembering that photosynthesis, using light, heat and moisture causes plant growth, you must follow a few key natural principles very carefully, or you will be disappointed. First, seeds must have moisture to germinate and grow. And the soil mix must be moist, but not soggy, or you’ll drown the new plant, since it must also have oxygen! Second, while heat is essential, temperatures must be maintained in a narrow range for ideal germination to occur. Most vegetable seeds germinate quickly between 75 and 80 degrees Fahrenheit. After plants are up, many of them will grow in cooler temperatures, but most all will become dormant (stop growing) at temperatures below 50 degrees. Third, light is not necessary for seed germination, but as soon as your seedlings begin to emerge from the soil, maximum light is required immediately for proper development. Therefore, to grow in your house, make sure your plants have a strong (but not hot!) light source directly on the plants, for up to 16 hours per day. Pictures of two grow-light shelves can be seen in the Photos section of the free gardening group at MittleiderMethodGardening@yahoogroups.com. The metal one is 6-shelf Commercial Chrome Shelving, from Sams Club costing only $70, and will hold 20 flats of plants. Suspend shop lights with 2 cool and 2 warm 40-watt tubes 2 to 4″ above the plants. The fourth principle relates to feeding. A balanced nutrient mix of 13 minerals is essential to plants immediately after germination. Those nutrients are mineral salts and must be very dilute in the soil moisture, otherwise osmosis will cause the salt to draw the life-giving moisture out of the plants, and they will die. To ensure you never burn your plants, water seedlings daily using the “Constant Feed Solution” of one ounce (2 level tablespoons) of Weekly Feed dissolved in 3 gallons of water. For the free Weekly Feed formula, go to the Gardening Techniques section at www.foodforeveryone.org, and look on the Fertilizer page. Next, it is important to separate your small plants before their leaves begin to overlap with others’, or the tiny stems will become very weak and spindly as the plants all stretch - looking for more light. By the time the plants have their first or second true leaf, this step should be completed. Failure to wait even a few hours can result in spindly, weak plants, which never recover. Transplanting seedlings into 2″ 6-paks or pots will provide adequate space for them to grow an additional 2-3 weeks, depending on variety. If it’s still too early to put them out into the garden by the time plant leaves are again beginning to overlap, prune the leaves, transplant again into larger pots, or separate pots, so the plant leaves always have maximum light. Before transplanting into the garden, “harden-off” your plants outside, off the ground for 2 to 3 days, to acclimate them to direct sunlight, temperature, wind, etc. This is important so the plant doesnt have the shock of a new environment added to the shock to its root system caused by transplanting. If the weather turns cold at night, bring the plants back in the house. The temperature adjustment needs to be gradual. For many of your plants, the pruning process does double duty. In addition to assuring maximum light, it shocks the plant mildly, causing it to pause in its growth and produce a thicker, sturdier stem. This process makes the plant much better able to endure the vicissitudes of the outside environment, such as cutworms, ants, etc. that often quickly decimate plants with weak, spindly stems. For tall-growing plants, like tomatoes, by the time they are 12″ tall, provide small stakes tied to the plant stem to prevent them from falling over. And with tomatoes, begin immediately to remove all sucker stems as soon as they appear, to assure a single, strong stem and maximum production from your plant. Is Natural Healing Effective?

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

By Foras Aje These days natural forms of healing and medicine have evolved into being so much more popular and more of a choice for the health seeker looking for ways to treat maladies. Perhaps this may be due to the many side-effects associated with most modern day drugs; however it does leave room for the question on whether natural healing is really effective in the first place? Well, from a guy who previously suffered from marring acne, asthma, lethargy and poor health, I will say natural healing does work, on the condition that it is applied correctly. Take a look at what I culled up online folks: An article on the web indicates that in 1997 Americans made 627 million visits to practitioners of alternative medicine and spent $27 billion of their own money to pay for alternative therapies. In contrast, Americans made only 386 million visits to their family doctor. Admittedly, even though conventional treatment by the medical fraternity does work well in the case of trauma and emergency, surveys are indicating that it is much less effective when it comes to prevention, chronic disease, and in addressing the mental, emotional, and spiritual needs of an individual. Moreover, the irony about alternative healing may be that its not so alternative after all, but rather the actual basis of the health care system. Heres an analogy to consider; Ayurvedic medicine uses diet, exercise, yoga, meditation, massage, herbs, and medication and, despite its long lineage, is as applicable today as it was 5000 years ago. For example, the seeds of the Mucuna pruriens plant have long been used to treat Parkinson’s disease in India; it is now receiving attention in conventional circles as it is more effective than l-dopa (the common Parkinsons disease drug) and has fewer side effects I will say natural healing can be all the more useful when one looks into detoxifying the body and adhering to a proper diet and lifestyle for health as perhaps nothing could be as responsible for disease and maladies as eating unhealthy food substances. So logic would depict that the cessation of such a practice and a replacement with a healthier and more productive choice is definitely the route to go. Well, as mentioned earlier, natural healing is gaining grounds in popularity and who knows in a few decades, not using this choice might be seen as the UNCONVENTIONAL approach.
