Kona Cotton: The Quilter’s & Embroiderer’s Dream Fabric

June 22nd, 2008 by jamimaescobido

By Deb Schneider What, Exactly, Is Kona Cotton? Kona(R) cotton is a premium, 100% cotton broadcloth from Robert Kaufman Fabrics in Los Angeles. The company introduced the fabric in the 1980’s in response to the then rapidly emerging quilting industry, an interest that continues unabated today. It is a soft, light fabric, often called the ‘Quilter’s Cotton’, that is also ideal for fine apparel such as children’s clothing; soft, comfortable shirts; dresses; applique and home decorating. It has a ‘meaty’ hand, which means you can really feel the difference when you touch the fabric and that makes it a joy to work with. Warps. And Wefts, Too Kona cotton has a high 60 by 60 thread count. This means there are 60 warp threads and 60 weft threads per square inch of fabric. Until I did some research, I didn’t know what warp and weft threads were. (I had never even heard the word ‘weft’.) A warp thread is a support thread in the loom, long and strong and usually tied down onto the loom; a weft thread is passed back and forth between the warp threads to form cloth. It is that high thread count, all those warps and wefts playing together, that make Kona cotton a soft, light, yet very durable material; one of the best woven fabrics available for hand or machine quilting. Pre-use Care It’s a good idea to launder the fabric to remove any sizing/finish before using it in your project. Treat it as you would any new 100% cotton fabric: Gentle wash, mild detergent, tumble dry low, remove promptly and iron. Expect about a 1-3% shrinkage. What About Color? Kona is available in plenty of colors, 170 solid colors according to the manufacturer’s web site, RobertKaufman.com. And a quick search for ‘hand dyed Kona cotton’ will pop up vendors offering hundreds of colors and patterns of beautifully dyed Kona cotton fabric. But Aren’t You an Embroiderer? Yes, I am a machine embroiderer and those same qualities that make Kona cotton ideal for quilting and sewing apply to machine embroidery, too. That meaty feel I mentioned makes it very easy to hoop and quick to stabilize. The push/pull factor is minimal and, best of all, the stitched out designs are gorgeous on it. Even though there a many cheaper fabrics, I test all my embroidery designs on Kona cotton and turn to it first for any finished embroidery project I have. Septic Tank and Septic System Maintenance

June 19th, 2008 by jamimaescobido

By Daniel Roshard If you are using septic tank instead of sewer connection, you need to properly maintain and care for it. You may not like the sound but you need to keep your septic tank well-maintained. Proper landscaping is one crucial element in the upkeep of the septic system. When constructing your septic tank, make sure that the soil absorption area is far from rainwater drainage or downspouts. Make sure that it is not underneath your garage and areas where you will put heavy equipment. Divert the water coming from other means away from the septic tank drainfield. Do not construct your septic tank near a tree or areas where soil erosion can easily occur. Roots from the trees can get through and damage your septic tank. Dispose chemicals and other liquid materials properly, this is one key reason for failure of septic system, many septic tanks have failed because of lack of attention to the materials disposed in it. Gasoline, paint thinners, motor oil, varnish, and other chemicals that contain active substances can ruin your septic tank walls and can cause hazard to groundwater as well. Make sure you dispose them properly and away from your septic tank system. Also, grease can easily clog in your septic tank so make sure you steer away from disposing them in your toilet. Differentiate the toilet from garbage cans always, if you own a septic tank you know that you will need to take care with all your garbage and waste, even if it means that you will need to inform any visitor in your house about it. Cigarette butts and filters facial tissues, paper towels, coffee grounds, sanitary napkins, disposable diapers, tampons, cat litter, and other solid waste must be disposed in your garbage bins and not on your toilet. They clog to your septic tank easily. Cleaning products are also a potential problem, heavy duty cleaners sometimes do their work all too well and cause other problems, you should make sure that your cleaning product is safe to use and that it may kill significant bacteria but can prolong the decomposition of solid waste. Use them properly. Do not flush left over foods Left over foods can decompose in time when flushed to your septic tank, food left at the drainage can nonetheless clog your drainage and cause serious trouble. Keep your leftovers on separate disposal container. This will extent the service of your septic tank. Conserve water Lowering your water consumption can help maintain a proper-functioning septic tank. Use your dishwasher only if it is full; reduce your water level when washing small amount of laundry; use aerators or flow reducer nozzles to conserve water, check for water leaks on your faucet and repair if necessary; and use a displacer to reduce the amount of water flushed on your toilet. Septic tanks and Septic systems are used in places that dont have a direct access to the sewer system, there are new and very advanced models of septic systems for the home, learn more about Fiberglass Septic Tanks at http://septictank.advice-tips.com Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Daniel_Roshard http://EzineArticles.com/?Septic-Tank-and-Septic-System-Maintenance&id=371747 national pay day loans no credit check auto laons impact financial payday online personal loans

How To Use An Amortization Calculator

June 15th, 2008 by jamimaescobido

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Arseniy_Olevskiy]Arseniy Olevskiy An amortization calculator is a tool that you can find offered to you throughout the web on loan lenders websites as well as on good lending informational websites. This tool is what is used to calculate the amortization of a loan. That is the way in which the loan is broken down throughout the repayment terms. For any loan that you purchase, this tool will help you as the consumer in many ways as well. It can actually be the tool that helps you to find the lowest cost loan and the one that is ideal for your specific needs. To use an amortization calculator , first find one. Again, these are free to use and they are available everywhere. You will be under no obligation to work with the lender or the company that provides them to you to use. Now, to use them, simply provide the following data to the calculator. What is the principal amount of money that you would like to borrow from the lender to purchase a home or to use for whatever other reason? What is the interest rate that the lender has provided to you? To know what is available to you, compare the rates of various lenders and even get online instant rate quotes as well. Then, provide the ones you qualify for here. What are the terms of the loan in which you are applying? The amortization calculator will need to know how long you play to schedule payments for to pay off the loan. The length of the loan is needed here. From here, the amortization calculator will do some figuring and will produce the following things for you to consider: The monthly payment of the loan as based on the information that you have provided for it.The payment broken down into how much interest as well as how much principal will be paid for each monthly payment sent in. This is usually much higher on the side of the interest during the first years of the loan and will later be lower as more principle is paid down. The total cost of the interest on the home loan. This is usually a high number and one no one wants to see.The total cost of the loan altogether including the interest and the principle of the loan. This is how much you are paying for your loan. This tool can provide so much help to anyone that is using it. Not only can you use it to produce this information for you to consider, but you can go back to the beginning and change the variables to suit your needs. You can lengthen the terms to see if this lowers your overall monthly payment amount. If the amount of interest is too high, you can go back and find a loan offering a lower rate and refigure it. You can compare the various amounts of a home that you are purchasing. Perhaps you can afford to spend more on your home. The amortization calculator can help you to understand all of these things. Cold Frame - A Simple Greenhouse

May 26th, 2008 by jamimaescobido

By Paul Wonning A cold frame is essentially a ground level, unheated greenhouse. It is usually a glass or plastic covered box which is mostly used to harden off seedlings before planting them in the garden. It differs from a cloche in that a cold frame is usually more permanent, whereas a cloche is portable and temporary. Plants in a cold frame are usually in pots or bedding packs. A cloche usually covers plants in their permanent locations in the garden. The seedlings are usually started elsewhere, in a greenhouse, germination chamber, or hotbed. Then they are transplanted to the cold frame to allow them to acclimate them to the cooler outdoor temperatures without subjecting them immediately to the rigors of the ever changing temperatures and wind of the outdoors. The cold frame can be protected by a blanket or similar cover on nights when the temperatures dip lower than the plants inside can tolerate. Since there is no heat, and the sides and cover usually provide minimal insulation against protection against the extreme temperature swings of early spring is important. A cold frame can be constructed using wooden boards, using an old window sash or storm window for a cover. A cover can also be constructed using a window screen onto which clear plastic has been stapled. A prop should be provided so the lid can be propped up during the sunny days, to prevent the inside from becoming overheated. The cold frame can also be used to over winter perennial and shrubs in small pots. The cold frame will protect the small plants from the drying winter winds and help moderate the cold temperatures. Any snow cover on top of the cold frame can also help protect the small plants. A cold frame is an ideal structure to protect small seedlings in the spring before they are ready to set in the garden. It will help harden off theses small plants. It may also be used to over winter small perennials and shrubs in pots. 2006Paul Wonning is the owner of Gardens and Nature.com a web site about gardening, hiking and other nature related topics. First Date Tip - Watch Your Body Language And See The Results!

May 18th, 2008 by jamimaescobido

By Cheryl Ashbrook As humans we tend to judge people within the first 10 seconds of meeting them so body language is probably the single most effective way of making a great impression on your first date. Thinking about how you present yourself on your first date and how you greet and speak to your date will have a much greater impact on your chances of success than thinking solely about what you say to them! The way you move your arms and legs, the eye contact you make and the facial expressions you wear all send messages to the people around you. Try standing or sitting in a crowded place and watch people whose voices you cannot hear and you will see what I mean. In it’s simplest from body language can be broken down into open and closed body language. Open body language makes you appear confident, friendly and welcoming, someone that your date will want to get to know and talk to. Closed body language on the other hand will make you look nervous or reserved and unfriendly so beware. On your first date there are some simple rules for you to remember; Look your date in the eye but remember this does not mean staring at them until they look away which will make you both feel uncomfortable! If you do not maintain regular eye contact with them throughout your first date then subconsciously they may not believe what you are telling them or think you appear untrustworthy. Keep you body turned towards your date as this will make them feel that you are interested in them and make them feel special. Be aware of your hands and try not to clench them or hide then. Talking openly with your hands is engaging and gives you an air of passion and enthusiasm but dont do it excessively as you will not look natural. Try and avoid touching your face or ears as this will demonstrate insecurity or anxiety to your date and will probably be a result of your nerves! Make sure you smile and remain animated throughout your first date. Recent research has shown that people are strongly drawn to those who smile and a smiling face will win over traditional good looks in terms of perceived attractiveness every time! If you can adopt a more open style of body language you will be amazed at the results. You will appear more confident and attractive to people and may find all your communications will improve as a result, not just your dating ones! What To Eat To Lose Weight

May 14th, 2008 by jamimaescobido

By Bob Howard There is a direct relationship between a good diet and good health. A balanced diet should involve the regular consumption of fresh and healthy foods in a proportionate manner. Unfortunately we are continuously being bombarded with conflicting information about what to eat and what not to eat while on a diet to either gain or lose weight. Depending upon whether your diet is meant to increase or decrease your body weight, or for fat loss, you should choose a diet that is suitable for you. Consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables should form the basis of any diet. For women, vegetables with high iron content are vital. Moreover green leafy vegetables such as spinach, roots and beets are essential as well. And no matter what kind of diet, the consumption of at least 8 to 10 glasses of water is highly recommended. A diet should consist of two primary characteristics; it gives the body all the required nutrients and its easy to follow. A highly demanding diet can be very tiresome and if its confusing to follow odds are you wont. Youll last two or three weeks at best, and then its back to your old unhealthy eating habits. We all have our working schedules and a diet should be such that it fits easily into your daily living style. It is important to remember that the female body requires a minimum of about 1,200 to 1,500 calories a day. For males the range is 1500 to 1800. This should be the governing principal when planning to go on a diet as anything lower than this, while contributing to fat loss, can also leave the body deficient in nutrients and cause damage. Vegetables, fruits, pulses, protein rich foods along with proper quantity of foods rich in carbohydrates and fats form essential part of a healthy and balanced diet. Even if you want to lose weight you shouldnt totally eliminate fats and carbohydrates from your diet. Healthy fats are required for the functioning of your immune and endocrine systems. Carbohydrates are required for short-term energy and if they are cut too drastic, the body may burn muscle tissue as a fuel source. Besides the obvious physical benefits, a diet high in fresh vegetables and fruits can help boost a persons outlook on life. A good diet is also important not only for a fit body but also for a healthy mind. With a good and nutritious diet a person will feel more lively and energetic throughout the day. Some researchers, including Dr. Thomas Paul of the USA, consider a balanced diet another name for a golden life. A diet containing foods rich in all the primary nutrients (such as fruits and salads) keeps ones body fit and nourished. For example citrus fruits provide Vitamin C, which has numerous benefits from maintaining proper teeth and bone health, to boosting the immune system and fighting free radicals. Considering togo on a diet is an investment for a lifetime. Not only will you grow and develop the kind of body you want, but your body will be healthier as well whether for gaining muscular mass, fat loss, or losing weight. So go ahead and change those old habits and start down the road to health and happiness. Bob Howard expert on bodybuilding and steroids. Are you looking for more of his &nbspon-a-diet articles? Quick Halloween Craft Idea - Witch’s Hands!

May 9th, 2008 by jamimaescobido

By Lindsay Small This is a handprint craft with a difference! You need only a few inexpensive supplies which you will probably have lying around the house. It is an easy craft to do with a crowd of children and the results are great for decorating the house or classroom. Best of all, you will end up with a fun memento to keep and look back on as the children grow. You will need: Green card or paper Scraps of black, red or purple card, paper, felt, tissue paper etc Pencils and pens White glue Instructions: Draw around the children’s hands onto the green card. Older children can pair up and draw round each others hands. Cut out carefully. Use the scraps of paper or card to cut pointed oval shapes for long, spiky finger nails and stick them on - embellishing, if you like, with glitter or stickers. Draw some spidery veins onto the hands, using your own hands as inspiration. Why not add a wart or two? Make them by scrunching tissue paper into a tiny ball and sticking onto the hands with white glue. Use the hands to decorate a notice-board, the fridge, or the Halloween table (place them on either side of a plate for a humorous effect). If you attach them to the edge of doors with sticky-tack it looks as if someone spooky could be hiding on the other side! Alternatively, attach plain white paper to the back of the hands and use them as invitations! Variations: Older children could create monster hands. Use cream or brown card and square off the fingers of their handprint before cutting out. Fingernails should be black or perhaps silver, and also square in shape. Use black pen to draw veins and lots of spiky black hair in the center of the hand and knuckles! Ghostly hands can be made out of white card. Stretch your handprints out a little to give particularly long, thin fingers. Make fingernails out of grey or silver scraps and decorate with silver glitter. Use pencil or grey pen to draw on veins. What To Do When You Can’t Find That Perfect Prospecting List

May 4th, 2008 by jamimaescobido

By Valerie Schlitt Imagine youre implementing a B2B prospecting campaign. You know your target decision maker is employed in virtually all companies, but you simply cannot find a list of names with your prospects title. Believe it or not, this happens more often than not. So, what do you do? Do you buy a list of CEOs, owners, and presidents? Or, do you incur the time and expense of calling each company to find the right person in charge of your product or service? A Case Study: Lets take a real example of a program we at VSA implemented for a security-type service. Our client wanted introductions to decision makers at specific companies, but the names and titles for these decision makers were not available on a ready-to- purchase list. And, when we researched further, each company housed the decision maker in a different department: the security department, IT, operations, or the manufacturing plants, and so on. So, we couldnt even purchase a list of heads of IT, for example. We decided to implement a phone and mail campaign over the course of a year, targeting multiple people at multiple levels within each company. We wanted the CEO and other C-level executives to learn our clients name and service offering. We also wanted to reach the manager-level individuals because they were close to the decision making process for our clients service. After our initial set of mailings, we made follow-up phone calls to the recipients. Any time we learned of a better contact we included these individuals in future mailings, so our list became increasingly focused. This dual-pronged approach mailing/phoning the C-level executives AND manager-level decision-makers proved effective. The best people to target from a selling perspective were the manager-level individuals in immediate need of our clients service. However, since our client had little existing name recognition and was entering a high-profile market where C-level executives needed to approve the purchase, targeting the C-level executives turned out to effective from a marketing perspective. The Implications If you need to target a specific individual and there is no ready-to-purchase list, youll probably need to invest the time and potentially money to call each company in order to identify the decision makers name and title. This will enable you to target the RIGHT person for selling purposes, the FIRST time. Reaching others in the firm, especially C-level executives, to gain a general awareness for your firm is effective in creating brand recognition and expanding your firms visibility. By targeting both high-level executives and lower-level decision makers, you can implement a combined marketing & sales program that makes prospecting particularly powerful. The Healing Arts: 18 Things Healers Learn, #6; You’re a Vehicle on Their Path

May 1st, 2008 by jamimaescobido

By Russ Reina This, perhaps of all the principles that are being discussed, is the most exasperating to deal with. Western medicine (for wont of a better description) presents itself as the path, as opposed to a path. The individual in need enters a system that, to a large extent, negates the whole system that is a person. Any medical modality that focuses on symptoms and their control and loses touch with the person as a whole whose system is as much under the direction of psychological, emotional, and spiritual factors as any physical expressions of dis-order essentially deprives individuals of the perspective so necessary to achieve and maintain their own health and happiness. The power of healing is, for the most part, in the hands of the individual. Of course most practitioners do say that, but then its and be sure to take this three times a day with meals, it will reduce your discomfort. The culture of typical medical modalities revolves around the practitioner and tools being the hub of the healing process; an outer source for the cure. The healer who understands the power of intent also, at some point, must recognize that he or she does not have all the answers. Intent is more about how a desired outcome feels rather than the specifics of how it occurs. The more you work with intent, the closer you come to understand that the best you can do is offer your skills and experience as a gift to the individual, to use or not as he pleases, in the way that he sees fit. Experience shows that people will heal themselves through the most unusual methods. Who is the practitioner amongst us who has not been completely floored by how a patient will identify and utilize an obscure, if not seemingly contradictory approach that does the trick? Healers deal with the moment, and the effectiveness of that moment can only be determined within the context of the scope of the others whole life. The healer only gets a very, very finite glimpse into that life. The real reason were there, in that moment, with that person, is often for a purpose that well never get to understand. Yes, it often appears were there to reduce suffering or to alleviate distress, yet can we really count on knowing how the ripples from the pebble we are affect the persons life as a whole? By being fixated on one method or approach, and working under the assumption that if used a certain way it will be effective in a certain way, we replace the amazing miracle of the scope of healing with a form of certainty that just doesnt exist. Without incorporating a sense of the individual and their relationship with their own health AND the modality offered, we take away an element of dignity that is so essential to the healing process. Predicting how what you offer will affect the situation beforehand is almost counter-productive to the task in front of you, which is to be an agent of healing: To be an agent of healing means being open to the power of healing to work through you as it chooses to express itself. Healers recognize that there are tools that produce specific results, but most important is how they offer those tools. Are they offered as a sure-fire cure, or are they offered as ends toward a form of personal empowerment for the recipient that leads toward increased vitality? There is a difference, and it is important for the healer to be open enough to see it. A constant source of frustration for most of us can be found in our holding on to the idea that what we have to offer will produce a desired, predictable result. The more resistance we encounter and lets face it, theres tons of that going around the harder and colder and more insulated we become. The truth is, the more we fixate on the resistance and do battle with it, the less likely are we to notice just how wise is the individual with whom were dealing, and how strong a force is healing. The most important part is to be there for the moment as it unfolds, on the moments terms. The more you fixate on a specific desired outcome, the less likely you will be able to recognize when tides are shifting toward an even better route that may produce a more meaningful turn of events in the life of the person with whom youre working. In its essence, its simply a matter of letting go and being open to the possibilities. You do what you can and let go of any investment you may have in an outcome that makes sense to you. Recognize and acknowledge that your role, no matter how much or little time it consumes, constitutes nothing more than a temporary intersection with the life of the other. You are together for only a flash of time, and then, that persons only job is to get on with the life shes been given. By all means, be the best vehicle you can to transport that person to her next phase. And then, grant her the freedom to use what youve offered in any way she sees fit. In the scope of her life, you are simply a temporary tool. Russ Reina shares over 35 years of experience in the healing arts through his web site http://mauihealingartist.com.
